Gabrielle Franks (Madison, Conn.), the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team suffered a 72-45 setback at UMass Dartmouth in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Corsairs. Jordan Moretti led the way with 15 points to go along with a game-high six assists.Â
The Wolves won the battle on the boards by a 42-33 margin but it wasn't enough as UMass Dartmouth forced 29 turnovers while coughing the ball up just 12 times. The hosts converted those turnovers into 26 points en route to the win. The Corsairs also finished with 30 points in the paint, while the Wolves managed 12.
The hosts opened the contest with an 11-1 run. However, the visitors countered to capture a 15-13 advantage when rookie guard

The advantage was short-lived as the Corsairs struck back with a trifecta of their own to regain an 18-17 lead to end the opening quarter. The Corsairs widened the gap to 34-26 at halftime.
WestConn could not sustain a rally in the second half as UMass Dartmouth stretched it to a 27-point advantage to round the scoring out at 72-45.
With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 12-6 overall and 5-5 in league play, while the Corsairs improved to 11-8 and 7-3. WestConn will look to get back to its winning ways when they host Castleton University in another conference game on Monday at 5 p.m.
