Fanning Leads WestConn With 16 Points In Loss At RIC

Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Graduate student Katelyn Fanning (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds, but the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team dropped a 63-38 decision to Little East Conference front runner Rhode Island College on Wednesday afternoon.

Nicole Vivian (New Milford, Conn.) followed with six points for the Wolves, which drop to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.

The Anchorwomen, which raced out to a 17-0 lead after the first period, were led by Dejah Middleton and Madison Medbury which netted 13 and 12 points for the winners, now 13-2 overall and undefeated a 6-0 in the LEC.  They have now won 12 straight games.

Angelina Nardolillo yanked down a game-high 10 caroms in 20 minutes today.

The Wolves battled back in the second stanza and outscored the hosts, 10-8, but trailed 25-10 at intermission.

After Rhode Island College captured the third period, 23-12, WestConn's bench personnel narrowly outscored the Anchorwomen, 16-15 over the final 10 minutes.

RIC dominated in nearly every category including rebounds, 48-32, bench points, 27-6 and points in the paint, 38-18.

WestConn will shake off the defeat and return to action this Saturday, February 14 when it plays host to University of Southern Maine in Feldman Arena at the O'Neill Center.  Game time against the Huskies is slated for a 1 pm tip-off.

RIC continues its two-game home stand on Saturday when it host Plymouth State University, also at 1 pm.
