Kendall Robinson (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and
Jaheim Young (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted 15 points apiece to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a 79-53 victory at John Jay College in a non-conference dogfight on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 3-0 overall, while the Bloodhounds dropped to 0-5.
Rookie guard
Jahlyl Morgan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) chipped in with a game-high six rebounds while classmate
Jaeden Carr (Ossining, N.Y.) set another game-high with six assists for the visitors.
Isaac Holmes led the hosts with a team-high 14 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the floor.
WestConn shot a blistering 42 percent (10-of-24) from three-point range while also dominating the offensive glass, 25-9, which translated to 23 second chance points. The hosts managed to hit just 19 percent (5-of-26) of their shots from beyond the arc.
John Jay jumped out to an early 6-3 lead. However, WestConn retaliated with a 24-2 first half barrage to put the game out of reach. Robinson finished off the flurry when he drove down the lane for a layup midway thru the stanza.
The Bloodhounds would not recover from the first half run en route to the loss. The Wolves will look to extend the win streak to four games when they host non-league foe Elms College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
