DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Three players notched double figures in scoring but it wasn't enough as the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell at UMass Dartmouth, 83-41, in a Little East Conference affair on Friday night.
Senior forward
Katelyn Fanning (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y) led WestConn with 14 points, while junior guard
Ashley Rilley (Orangeburg, N.Y) and sophomore guard
Nicole Vivian (New Milford, Conn.) chipped in with 13 and 12, respectively.Â
Five players tallied double figures for the Corsairs. Shaelyn Carreiro led the way with a game-high 18 points, while Caroline Wilson added 15.Â
The hosts wrapped up the first quarter with a 22-1 lead and the visitors would not recover. As the final score would indicate, the hosts held a commanding advantage in the stats columns. They drained 10-of-23 (44 percent) three-points attempts while WestConn connected on 1-of-12 (8 percent).
WestConn will look to rebound from the loss when host Rhode Island College on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Their contest scheduled for Sunday at Southern Maine has been postponed.
