Women's Basketball Falls in Season Opener at SUNY Cobleskill, 57-47

Box Score COBLESKILL, N.Y. - Despite game-highs of 14 points from junior Ashley Rilley (Orangeburg, N.Y) and 16 rebounds from senior Katelyn Fanning (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.), the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell at non-conference opponent SUNY Cobleskill, 57-47, in their season opener on Monday night. Rilley also capped off the double-double with 10 boards and finished a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Annie Canales paced the hosts with 13 points while Tylysa Martinez chipped in with 10.

Cobleskill led for the majority of the contest and by as many as 21 late in the third quarter. The difference in the contest came as their bench outscored WestConn's, 31-12.

The visitors took an 8-6 lead off a Rilley layup midway thru the opening quarter. However, the hosts answered with a solid run and would not look back.

WestConn returns to action against non-league foe Fitchburg State at the Curry Tournament on Friday at 5 p.m.
