DANBURY, Conn. - Three players tallied double figures and the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball squad rolled to a 79-39 victory over visiting St. Joseph's College Brooklyn in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at Feldman Arena. With the win, WestConn improved to 5-1 overall while the Bears dropped to 0-4.
Rookie guard
Corey Walters (Hamden, Conn.) led all players with 14 points for the hosts, while senior
Matthew Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) and freshman
Malik Cole (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 and 10, respectively.Â
Junior guard Evan Sirakis (Hollis, N.Y.) paced the visitors with 13 as they were playing without their leading scorer and rebounder.Â
WestConn netted the first hoop of the contest and would not look back. They opened the game with a 20-2 run finished off with a layup from junior forward
Ryan Alkins (Queens, N.Y.).Â
They would hold a commanding 40-18 advantage at the break. The second half was more of the same as the visitors could not sustain any rally.
WestConn returns to action against visiting non-league opponent Manhattanville College on Tuesday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m.
