Solomon Silas (Danbury, Conn.) added 11 to guide the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a 78-62 victory at non-conference opponent Elms College on Monday night at Picknelly Arena. With the win, WCSU improved to 4-1 overall while Elms dropped to 0-3.
The visitors dominated the glass with a 43-30 advantage while also commanding a strong advantage in points in the paint along with bench scoring.
WestConn flew out of the gate with an 18-4 run finished off with a layup from freshman forward
James Rhodes (Tarrytown, N.Y.). They would maintain a 41-35 advantage at halftime.
The hosts trimmed the lead to five points less than two minutes into the second half but they would not get any closer.
WestConn pulled away quickly and would not let Elms back into the contest.
WCSU returns to action on Tuesday, November 23 when they host non-league foe St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
