WestConn Blanks Southern Maine, 2-0

DANBURY, CONN. - Senior Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored a goal and an assist to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting University of Southern Maine in the regular-season finale at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday morning.

WestConn, now 15-5 overall, finish at 6-2 in the Little East Conference and will finish with a third seed in the final league standings.  It has secured a LEC quarterfinal home game this coming Tuesday and will host University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 4 pm.  For all LEC Championships' information, visit littleeast.com at the conclusion of Saturday's league slate.

Restrepo put the hosts up 1-0 at the 59:49 mark after his on-target shot attempts ricocheted off a USM defender before Kevin Voter (Lyman, Me.) accidentally kneed it past his own goalie Hayes Estrella (Kennebunk, Me.).  It was Restrepo's eighth goal of the season.

Freshman Jordan Decosta (Jamaica, N.Y.) added an insurance goal five minutes later.  His seventh marker of the season was a header in front of the net, from Restrepo's free kick from 25 yards out.

Senior Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, Conn.) was credited with the clean, his fourth of the season, but did not have to make a save on the Huskies' only shot.

WestConn outshot the visitors, 23-1 in the victory.

Estrella made eight saves for Southern Maine, which ends its season at 5-11-1 overall and winless in the conference at 0-8.
