Nicolina Chenard Records A Double-Double In 3-1 Win At UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Junior Nicolina Chenard (Ardsley, N.Y.) notched a double-double effort of 14 kills and 13 digs to lead Western Connecticut to a 3-1 Little East Conference volleyball victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center.

Junior Ali Brochu (Winsted, Conn.) added 11 kills for the visiting Colonials (19-6, 5-2 LEC), who dropped a 25-17 opening set decision before taking the next three sets by a 25-20, 25-17 and 26-24 margins.  

Sophomore Abbi Debes (New Milford, Conn.) recorded eight kills for Western Connecticut, which received seven kills and three service aces from junior Victoria Korzan (Southbury, Conn.).  

Freshman Rory McMaster (Canton, Mich.) collected 36 set assists for the winners, who received 16 digs from junior Skylar Kellam (Fishkill, N.Y.) and nine digs from junior Victoria Alomar (Naranjito, P.R.).

"Today was a good win.  We had to travel very early and it took us out of our routine and it showed in the first set," explained WestConn head coach Don Ferguson.  "I was impressed with UMass Dartmouth and the energy it played with for its seniors.  We had a hard time matching that energy, but I was pleased that we were able to settle down and stick to our game plan and finish with a win."

Senior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) registered a double-double performance of 12 kills, 12 digs and three service aces in the setback for the host Corsairs (8-15, 2-5 LEC), who received eight kills and four block assists from sophomore Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.) along with eight kills from sophomore Emma Aillet (Deer Park, Tex.).  

Senior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) notched 27 set assists and five digs for UMass Dartmouth, which received 18 digs, four set assists and three service aces from senior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.).

UMass Dartmouth hosts Worcester State in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 pm, while Western Connecticut entertains UMass Boston in a Little East Conference clash on Wednesday evening in Danbury, Conn. that also begins at 7:00 pm.
