BRONX, NY – Rookie setter Rory McMaster (Canton, MI) dished out a match-high 23 assists and four service aces to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball squad to a 3-0 shutout win at non-conference foe Lehman College on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Colonials improved to 12-3 and are now sporting a seven-match winning streak. The Lightning fell to 2-14.
"I was pleased with the way we played tonight," said WestConn head coach Don Ferguson following play. "We've still got items to improve on before our next matches on Saturday," he added.
Ariana Pradieu led the Lightning attack with four kills while Heder Rodriguez paced the way with seven assists. Chrissy Tran recorded a team high 10 digs. For the Colonials, junior Ali Brochu (Winsted, CT) paced the offense with seven kills. Rookie Taylor Rohan (Yonkers, NY) added three blocks.
In the first set, West Conn ran off seven points in a row to take a 9-5 advantage. Leading by three at 15-12, the Colonials again went run to push the advantage to 21-12 cruising to a first set victory 25-13. In the second set, West Conn jumped out to a 7-2 lead and never looked back. The Lightning struggled all set falling 25-7. The Colonials scored the first five points of the third set. However, Lehman would continue to battle cutting the deficit to three, at 12-9. West Conn would go on a 10-1 run to take control going onto earn the straight set victory with a score of 25-11.
WestConn travels to Keene, NH to battle Keene State and Westfield St. on Saturday at Noon.
