KEENE, NH - Junior midfielder Osheonna Israel (South Windsor, CT) scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute and the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team defeated Keene State College, 2-1 at Ron Butcher Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonials, now 8-4-1 overall are perfect at 3-0 in the Little East Conference, while Keene State drops to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in league action.
WestConn, which extends its win streak to six games, took a 1-0 lead when Myah Croze (Bristol, CT) scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 51st minute. She broke away from an Owls' defender and chipped the ball under the cross bar and into back right corner of the net.
KSC knotted the game at 1-1 when Sarah Carron finished off a pass from Victoria Reynolds at the 60:37 mark.
Osheonna's tally was her fifth goal of the season and she has now scored four goals in the last three games for the Colonials.
"Osheonna is giving us a much-needed other option on offense lately and it could not come at a better time," stated WestConn head coach Alex Harrison. "The team is clicking right now, but we cannot get ahead of ourselves. There are a lot of conference games left to play."
Karly Martin (Bristol, CT) earned the victory in goal for WestConn. The reigning LEC Goalie of the Week made nine saves on Saturday.
Shelby Offord suffered the loss in net for the Owls. She made four saves after coming on after intermission. Abbie Terrinca made five saves in the first half.
The Colonials travel to Worcester State University on Tuesday, October 8 for a 7 pm meeting with the Lancers.
