CASTLETON, VT - Eric Caldwell (East Moriches, NY) and Robert Swensen (Danbury, CT) each scored five goals and the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team cruised to a 21-3 victory at Castleton University on Saturday afternoon.
After holding on to a 2-1 lead after the first stanza, the Colonials, now 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Little East Conference, went on a tear, out scoring the Spartans, 10-1 over the next 15 minute period.
Caldwell picked up three of his five goals in the second quarter while Swensen collected a pair of unassisted goals in the frame.
Ryan Reuling (Groton, CT) added a hat-trick for the winners, which out shot Castleton, 50-29 on Saturday.
Perry Cassidy (East Setaucket, NY) earned the victory in goal for WestConn after allowing just two goals while making 14 saves over the first three quarters.
Derek Strine (Bayport, NY) mopped up in the final stanza and made a pair of saves.
Wyatt Pickrell led the Spartans with two goals while Tom Pardew closed out the scoring for the hosts.
Castleton used a trio of goalies with Brandon Myron taking the loss between the pipes. He allowed the first 12 goals while making six saves before halftime.
Maxx Ingison came on for a 21 minutes and allowed eight goals and made three saves.
Alex Rousseau, who made one save, finished the final nine minutes and let one goal by.
WestConn closes out its regular-season home schedule on Wednesday, April 17 when it plays host to University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Game time with the Corsairs is set to begin at 7 pm.
