DANBURY, Conn. - Senior Erickah Tertulien (Norwalk, Conn.) and freshman Keira Hammond (Carmel, N.Y.) each won in singles and won together in doubles to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Lehman College Lightning in women's tennis action this afternoon at Westside Courts.  WestConn improves to 1-3 and will Lehman drops to 0-3.  The Wolves will be back in action on Friday when they visit Bard at 2:30 p.m.

In doubles, Lehman took the point despite a dominating 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot by Hammond/Tertulien and Hammond.  In singles, needing four of the six courts for the win, WestConn got off to a strong start with opening set victories on five courts.  Junior Kate Robinson (Brookfield, Conn.) got the Wolves on the scoreboard with her 6-3, 7-6 win at third singles. Tertulien then followed with a close victory 7-5, 7-5, at the top of the ladder, and Hammond earned her first collegiate singles win.  She came back from losing her first set was down, 3-0, in the second set before winning, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4). 

WestConn saw its lead cut to one when Lehman's Elizabeth Nlemchukwu and Mamia Kolley secured three-set wins over WestConn's Caroline Illescas (Danbury, Conn.) and Eilynn Pierre (Queens Village, N.Y.), respectively.  Wolves junior Elisa Sabol (Pleasantville, N.Y.) found herself down, 3-1, in the third set of the deciding match at fifth singles but rallied and won five of the next six games to secure a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 triumph and clinch the team win for WestConn.

"It was a great win today," said WestConn Head Coach Shawn Stillman. "This is the first time this season that I can say every court fought hard from the beginning to the end. Everyone battled and I'm proud of them for that."
