WestConn Softball Completes 2026 Season With Setbacks Against Southern Maine

DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves suffered two losses, 8-1, and, 10-7, against the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies in Little East Conference (LEC) softball action this afternoon at Westside Field.  WestConn closes the 2026 season with an 11-27 overall record and a 1-15 mark against conference teams.  Southern Maine improves to 23-12 overall and 7-9 in the league.  Wolves senior Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.), playing in her final collegiate game, reached base safely six of seven plate appearances, going 4-for-5 with a run, an RBI, a walk, a hit-by-pitch and three doubles.  Mia Coots pitched a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks in the first game and collected a save in game two for Southern Maine.

WestConn junior RHP Lindsay Farinacchio (Red Hook, N.Y.) and Coots were both stellar through three scoreless innings of game one before the Huskies scored two unearned runs in the fourth.  Southern Maine broke out for five more runs in the fifth frame, taking advantage of two Wolves errors in the outfield,  to go ahead, 7-0.  WestConn got one back in the bottom of the fifth on a double by sophomore Analise Hubert (Trumbull, Conn.) and an RBI single by classmate Madison Mandra (Bethpage, N.Y.).  WestConn junior 2B Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Resto singled in the sixth, but Coots struck out three of the game's last five batters.  Allen was 2-for-3 at the plate and Farinacchio went the distance with two K's in the circle for WestConn.  Coots improved to 13-6.

WestConn chased Southern Maine starter Mackenzie Kingsbury in less than an inning, taking a 3-0 lead in its first turn at bat in game two.  Senior SS Jaycee Filancia (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second, and scored on a single by junior Lorelai Stancavage (Bristol, Conn.).  Allen singled and later scored on a wild pitch and Resto doubled and scored on a hit by sophomore C Victoria Wiatrak (Cromwell, Conn.).  Southern Maine got two runs in the second inning and tied the game in the fourth on a triple by Ella Bezandon and an RBI single by Kristina Yebba.  The Huskies took a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning on an unearned and Coots pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the inning after relieving Husky winning pitcher Camdyn Johnson.

Southern Maine broke the game open in the sixth with five runs, including three on a bases-loaded triple by Emily Wheeler, but WestConn answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Sophomore Julia Valukis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Filancia singled around a walk by senior OF Francesca Foster (Mystic, Conn.) before Stancavage blasted a triple off the wall that cleared the bases and made the score, 9-6.  The Huskies scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh, and Resto's third double followed by an RBI single by Valukis made it, 10-7, before Coonts recorded the final out with her 15th strikeout of the day.  Johnson did not allow a run in 3.2 innings of reief to improve to 6-3.  WestConn senior Olivia Bordenaro (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) allowed five runs and three earned runs with one K in 5.2 innings pitched but finished her final year at 7-10.
