MELBOURNE, Fla. — On the final day in Florida, the Western Connecticut State University softball team fell (11-4, 11-2) to Hamilton College in a doubleheader at the Space Coast Complex on Friday. The Wolves moved to 2-8 on the season, while the Continentals improved to 5-5 overall.
In game one, Hamilton scored five unanswered runs through the opening two innings before
Giulia Scibilia's (Carle Place, N.Y.) single down the right field line to allow pinch runner
Caitlin Milks (Sandy Hook, Conn.) to score and put the Wolves on the board in the third. Hamilton scored four more times in the fourth.
Angelina Avila (Hicksville, N.Y.) reached first base off an error by shortstop and pinch runner
Lexi Winkler (Longmeadow, Mass.) added another run for WestConn in the top of the fourth. On the next play,
Francesca Foster (Mystic, Conn.) stole home, followed by a sacrifice fly by
Victoria Wiatrak (Cromwell, Conn. ) to bring Avila home.
In the first inning of game two, Hamilton scored three times, but
Serenity Ortega's (Riverside, Calif.) run narrowed the gap to two off
Alexis Resto's (Shelton, Conn.) single to right field in the second. After being down 5-2 in the fourth with two outs on the board and bases loaded,
Julia Valukis' (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) RBI single to right field brought Foster back home.
Through the fifth and sixth innings, Hamilton scored six more runs.
