WestConn Men's Ice Hockey Falters In Final Period Against Norwich

DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves led the visiting Norwich University Cadets, 1-0, after two periods, but the Wolves surrendered four goals in the third frame and lost, 4-1, in Little East Conference (LEC) men's ice hockey action this afternoon at Danbury Ice Arena.  WestConn falls to 2-20 overall and 1-14 in the LEC, while Norwich improves to 15-5-3 and 12-2-2 in the league.  The Wolves will host conference rival Castleton tomorrow at 3 p.m. in WestConn's final home game of the season.  Freshman Jordan Blais (Enfield, Conn.) scored his first career goal and rookie goaltender Liam Lane (Castle Rock, Colo.) made 30 saves for the Wolves.

WestConn and Norwich played an even first period, as each attempted six shots before the first break.  The Cadets outshot the Wolves, 16-9, in the second period but WestConn took a 1-0 lead 7:29 into the middle frame when Blais deflected a hard shot by freshman teammate Dante Debeurris (Port Washington, N.Y.) that sailed past Norwich backstop Sami Molu for the game's first goal.  WestConn's Martin Brusoe (Madison, Wisc.) also assisted on the play.  Lane turned away 22 shots in the first two periods, but the Cadets tied the game 1:44 into the third on a power play after WestConn was penalized for coming out late from the locker room. Norwich scored three more times in the last period, including one on an empty-netter in the final minute.
