DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University men's ice hockey team has added Mark Krys to its coaching staff for the 2026-27 season.  A 1991 graduate of Boston University, Krys comes to WestConn from the Northern Connecticut Hockey program where he coached the Tier 1 U-18 split-season squad last year.  The Wolves will open the 2026-27 season on Friday when they visit Albertus Magnus at 5 p.m.

"We are very excited to have Mark join our staff," said Friedman, "I've known Mark for a long time. We were teammates at Boston University, and he was my captain during my freshman year. He brings a tremendous amount of hockey experience to the program and is an outstanding leader and person to have around our players and staff."

A native to Timmins, Ontario, Krys attended Boston University, where he helped the Terriers capture multiple Hockey East and Beanpot championships and make several NCAA Frozen Four appearances.  As a senior, Krys served as team captain and helped lead BU to the Beanpot and Hockey East titles as well as the NCAA Division Forozen Four Championship game.  Krys was selected by the Boston Bruins in the NHL Draft and went on to enjoy a lengthy professional playing career as a defenseman.  He appeared in nearly 600 professional games across several leagues, including the American Hockey League (AHL), International Hockey League (IHL), and Germany's Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
