DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University softball team, which finished the 2025 regular season with a 22-18 record and in fifth place in the Little East Conference (LEC) with an 8-8 mark against conference opponents, has qualified for the league championship tournament for the 22nd time and the first time since 2019. The Wolves, led by Head Coach Heather Stone (19th Season), are seeded fifth and will begin the post-season on Wednesday, May 7 against the No. 4-seeded University of Massachusetts-Boston Beacons with a noon start at host Eastern Connecticut State University.  WestConn split with the Beacons during the regular season, winning, 2-1, and losing, 12-3, in a doubleheader on April 13.

The top six teams in the LEC qualify for the league tournament and will play a double-elimination format from May 7 to 10 at Eastern Connecticut. The top-seeded Warriors and No. 2-seeded Southern Maine received byes, while No. 3-seeded Plymouth State faces No. 6-seeded UMass-Dartmouth in the other first round game on Wednesday.  The losers of tomorrow's afternoon games will play an elimination game at 6 p.m. and the winners will play on Thursday.  The tournament will continue with three games each day, weather permitting until the final one or two games on Saturday, May 10.  The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.  WestConn has an impressive history in the LEC Tournament, having won the league title in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2013, and 2016.  WestConn is 3-2 all-time against the Beacons in the LEC Tournament, including an 8-2 win against them in the 2016 finals.

WestConn recovered from a 5-8 start to the year and won eight of nine games to sit at 13-9 on April 10 and are 9-9 since then.  The Wolves split every LEC doubleheader this season except for a 1/5-0/1 road sweep at UMass Dartmouth on April 16 and a 6/6-2/4 sweep by Eastern Connecticut in Danbury on April 22.  Offensively, WestConn is second in the LEC with a team batting average of .318.   Junior SS Jaycee Filancia (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) leads the Wolves with 50 hits in 123 at-bats for a .407 average to go with a team-high 48 runs, 11 doubles, 17 RBIs, 26 walks, and a school record 41 stolen basses in 42 attempts.  Sophomore IF Benni Tucci (Norwalk, Conn.) is batting .380 with 22 runs, while junior IF Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.) adds 12 doubles and 26 RBIs with a .364 batting average (32-101). In the circle, senior lefty Olivia Bordenaro (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and sophomore righty Lindsay Farinacchio (Red Hook, Conn.) are an effective one-two punch.  They are 19-15 with 108 strikeouts and a 3.32 ERA between them this spring.
