Box Score 2 NAPLES, Fla. - Under overcast skies, the Western Connecticut State University softball team dropped both games on Tuesday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. In the opener, the Wolves' comeback fell short before falling to New York University, 4-3. In the early afternoon affair, WestConn lost to Wilmington College, 10-2 in six innings.
Game One - NYU 4, WestConn 3
WestConn fell behind, 4-0, before scoring a pair of runs in the six inning and another in its final at bat in the bottom of the seventh frame.
In the final inning, NYU graduate student Angelina Biele re-entered the game in the circle, was able to induce a game-ending bases-loaded double play to thwart WestConn's comeback.
The Wolves scattered six hits with
Brianna Malvino collecting their only extra base hit, a double in the two-run sixth inning. She later came into score one of WestConn's runs in that stanza.
Benni Tucci went 1-for-4 with an RBI and scored one run.
Madison Zicchinelli drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning for WestConn's other run batted in.
Sydney Chenoweth suffered the loss after yielding four runs, three of them earned, on seven hits in four innings.
Biele improves to 2-1 for the Violets.
Game Two - WestConn 2, Wilmington 10 (6 innings)
Jada Miconi went 2-for-3 and scored one of the Wolves two runs against the Quakers.
Benni Tucci collected a hit in three at bats and scored the other WestConn run.
Madison Vanderploeg went 1-for-3 with a double in the loss.
Sophomore
Sarah Milyko was saddled with the loss and is now 0-1. Against Wilmington, she allowed seven runs, just two of them earned, on 11 hits, struck out three and walked one.
WestConn falls to 6-4 in the season.

WestConn faces St. Joseph's University of Brooklyn in the early contest at 9 am in Fort Myers. The Wolves take on the Trailblazers from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts after a short break, at 1 pm.
