WestConn softball splits again in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NAPLES, Fla. - The Western Connecticut State University softball team split a pair of games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at North Collier Sports Complex again on Friday.  The Wolves dropped the opener to Drew University, 8-0 before rebounding to take the second game, over John Carroll University, 5-4.

WestConn is now 2-2 in the early going.


Game 1 - Drew 8, WestConn 0

Against the Rangers, Benni Tucci went 2-for-3 while Jada Miconi, Amber Roggendorf, Alexis Resto, Rachael Ushka and Isabella Pincince each collected singles.

Senior Hailey Golembiewski suffered the loss in the opener and is now 1-1.  She allowed five runs, three of them earned on, on five hits over three and a third innings.  The hard-throwing righty struck out two and walked a pair.

Oliva Bordenaro and Karly Vito worked the final three and two-third innings.  

Madi Precht went 3-for-3 and drove in a run while Deja Robinson had a pair of RBI and two hits for the winners.

Sophomore righty Teagan Bradley went the distance and allowed just seven harmless singles while striking out five and walking two.  She is now 2-1 on the season.


Game 2 - WestConn 5, John Carroll 4

Sophomore Sarah Milyko slammed the door with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to close out the 5-4 victory over John Carroll University.

Hailey Golembiewski collected the win and is now 2-1.  She came on in relief in the fourth inning of starter Sydney Chenoweth and did not allow a hit in three inning of work.  Golembiewski struck out three and walked four against the Blue Streaks.  Chenoweth yielded four runs on six hits over the first three frames.

Racheal Ushka went 2-for-3 and had a double at the dish.

Carly Cordova led the Wolves offense by going 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Amber Roggendorf, Brianna Malvino and Chenoweth registered RBIs for the winners.

Melissa Smith led JCU with one hit and three runs batted in.

Danielle Orendi took the loss and is now 3-1 for the Blue Streaks.  She allowed four runs on six hits and struck out three in the opening three and two third innings.

WestConn faces Mitchell College at 9 am then SUNY Brockport in the 11 am show.
