    WALTHAM, MA – Senior guard Jancy Sherwood (Poughquag, NY) tallied a team-high 21 points, while sophomore guard Frances Snyder (Pine Plains, NY) chipped in with 18 to lead the WestConn women’s basketball team past Husson, 95-92, at the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night. With the victory, the Colonials improved to 2-1 overall and will meet host Brandeis in the tournament championship game Saturday at 2 p.m. Husson dropped to 0-1 and will play in the consolation game.

    DANBURY, CT – Despite a team-high 12 points from junior guard Gabrielle Hurlbert (Thomaston, CT), the Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball team fell to visiting non-conference opponent Stevens Institute of Technology, 75-57, in the season opener for both squads on Thursday night at the O’Neill Center’s Feldman Arena. Sophomore guard Frances Snyder (Pine Plains, NY) chipped in with 11 points, while junior Jessica Davis (Hamden, CT) added a team-high five steals for the Colonials who dropped to 0-1 overall.

    Before the grind of the upcoming 2018-19 season arrived, the WestConn men and women’s basketball teams took to the court, in a much more relaxed way, in New Milford, CT.  Earlier this week, the two teams volunteered for the second-annual New Milford Youth Basketball Organization’s (NMYBO) “Back-to-Basketball Bash.”
