HARTFORD, CT - The WestConn men's and women's swimming and diving squads opened the season at the Blue Jay Pentathlon Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph University of Friday night. On the men's side, rookies Luke Forsberg (New Fairfield, CT) and David Lawrence (Newtown, CT) tallied second and third place finishes in multiple events to lead the Colonials, while first-year Molly Henry (Pound Ridge, NY) had a strong performance.
"Today was a good early season meet and will give us a base to build off of heading into our dual meets," stated WestConn head coach Jill Cook following the activity.
Henry notched a sixth place finish in 100-yard backstroke in the third event of the evening before touching the wall in a time of 1:00.54, good for a third place showing in the 100-yard freestyle. Classmate Hope Johnsky (Bristol, CT) grabbed the fourth spot in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Forsberg and Lawrence finished second and third respectively in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard IM to round out a stellar start to the season.
The Colonials return to the water for yet another meet hosted by Saint Joseph on Friday, November 9. Elms College will also be partaking in the event.
