Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Elms, 87-65

CHICOPEE, MA – The Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team returned from the Thanksgiving break and rolled to an 87-65 victory at non-conference opponent Elms College on Monday night. With the win, the Colonials improved to 3-2 overall while the Blazers fell to 0-6.

WestConn shot a red-hot 34-of-61 (55.7%) from the field and forced 26 turnovers, while coughing it up just 15 times. They also outmuscled Elms in the paint by a margin of 54-12.

Junior guard Ronald Jefferson (Brooklyn, NY) tallied a team-high 17 points, while classmate forward Fenton Bradley Jr. (Mansfield, CT) and sophomore guard Shea Tracy (New Britain, CT) added 14 and 11, respectively, for the Colonials. Rookie guard Ricardo McLeod (Brooklyn, NY) chipped in with a game-high five steals.

Junior forward Pablo Ortiz (Newington, CT) led the Blazers with a game-high 23 points which included a 6-for-9 performance from beyond the arc.

The visitors jumped out to an early 12-7 lead capped with a thunderous dunk from Bradley Jr. off a nifty feed from Tracy. Bradley Jr. would throw down another with a helper from senior forward Rashard Rodriguez (Trumbull, CT), stretching the lead to 46-33 late in the opening half.

Bradley Jr. would once again display his presence in the paint when he stormed down the lane for an offensive putback midway through the second half, extending the lead to 82-62. The Colonials would cruise the rest of the way.

WestConn returns to action for yet another non-conference matchup on the road when they meet Trinity on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
